NEWARK: NEW WORK

Roland Barthes, in his book Camera Lucida, postulates that “… every photograph is somehow co-natural with its referent …” . Language is the pervasive method of communication and pointedly many photographers and spectators suggest that the image can replace the word. Newark: New Work explores the dichotomy between image and words. This series combines a pair of words with an image, with the intention to explore the uncertain response that the separate clues provide; the viewer is compelled to examine the connection with a minimum of reference provided.
